On my mind

Lately, this poem has been on my mind. I discovered it hanging in the classroom where I student taught. I copied it and hung it in my class every year.
With some friends going through their kids being bullied at school, and my own kids feeling more freedom to dress as themselves for school each day, this poem has been crossing my mind regularly!

Here's to the kids who are different,

The kids who don't always get A's,

The kids who have ears twice the size of their peers,

And noses that go on for days...


Here's to the kids who are different,

The kids they call crazy or dumb,

The kids who don't fit, with the guts and the grit,

Who dance to a different drum...


Here's to the kids who are different,

The kids with the mischievous streak,

For when they have grown, as history's shown,

It's their difference that makes them unique!
